• Li-Ion batteries do not develop memory like NiMH and NiCd batteries. Memory is a condition where the battery begins to charge to one point (less than 100%) and 'reconditioning' steps must be done to remove the stopping point.
• Li-Ion batteries are subject to 'degradation'. Degradation is a condition when the battery charges to completely (100%) but does power the computer for as long as originally, this is caused by the physical properties of Li-Ion and can be slowed but not prevented.
• Li-Ion will self-discharge during storage.
How do I best care for my battery?
Over time, every battery will degrade. This means it will power the device for less and less time. There is no exact method to follow to guarantee the longest battery life; however, here are helpful suggestions:
• Keep the battery close to room temperature as much as possible. The general acceptable working temperature is 50° to 95°F. Storage temperatures can be more varied. High-heat (113°F or higher - such as in a car in the summer) will reduce battery life.
• Batteries should be used occasionally.
o If the computer is always plugged in with the battery, battery life-span will decrease sooner than expected.
o For optimal life-span, the battery should be used at least once a month (without the ac adapter). Allowing it to discharge more than 50% then recharging can be optimal.
Only discharging somewhat is optimal because batteries are designed to be fully discharged-charged around 500-600 times (cycles). Not fully discharging can increase the number of cycles while providing the battery some use it needs to limit degradation.
